FCHS BOD As requested:Run-off Election Rules Note: These are rules for a run-off election only. The By-laws state that directors will be elected by a majority of votes and this will be the first preference of the Directors in keeping with the intent and spirit of the By-laws. However, in the event a minimum of 7 directors are not elected in the first election, a run-off election will be held to ensure a functioning board. If more than 7 directors are elected by a majority in the run-off then those candidates will be considered elected up to a maximum of 13 directors as the By-laws allow. The By-laws require a minimum of 7 directors to have a functioning Board. In the event a minimum of 7 directors are not elected by a majority of the votes in the first election, then a run-off election will be held among the remaining candidates who do not withdraw their candidacies and who received more votes in the first election than any other remaining candidate. The run-off ballot should consist of the those candidates receiving the highest number of votes in order such that the number of candidates will equal the number of open seats plus one. For example, if there are 3 seats to be filled, the 4 highest vote receivers will be placed on the ballot. Write in candidates will still be allowed. If more candidates than the minimum of 7 receive a majority of the votes then those candidates will be considered elected to the board up to a maximum of 13 as dictated in the By-laws. If enough candidates don't receive a majority to ensure a functioning board of at least 7, then the remaining seats on the board (no more than the minimum of7) will be elected by plurality (most votes). For example: There will be 4 names on the ballot. If no one gets a majority of the vote, then the top 3 vote getters are elected. If only 2 get a majority then the next seat will be filled by the remaining candidate with the highest votes etc. Editor’s note, these names are posted after confirming their interest in serving on the Board of Directors Write-ins On the Ballot
